Cloud Types

1) Synthetic (free) In this mode, EarthView will download low resolution cloud data and generate a synthetic cloud image based on that real cloud data. A download of new data is approx. 60 KB and it is updated up to 4 times a day (every 6 hours). We use an advanced algorithm to generate the clouds, so the results will be realistic. Nevertheless, it's just an approximation that is only intended to provide an overview of the global cloud coverage. The synthetic cloud download is free for customers who purchase the full version of EarthView.

2) Satellite Photo (subscription required) In this mode, the cloud layer is generated from high resolution satellite images of five major geostationary weather satellites. The five single images are carefully combined to a global composite, which is then made available for download from our servers. This mode produces very realistic results, which makes it possible to see local weather situations. The download of the cloud data is currently available in three different sizes:

Small: resolution 2000 x 1000 pixels, download size approx. 500 KB
Medium: resolution 3000 x 1500 pixels, download size approx. 1 MB
Large: resolution 6000 x 3000 pixels, download size approx. 2.5 MB

A small subscription fee is required for downloading this type of cloud data. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we are keeping this as inexpensive as possible so that just our expenses (license costs, bandwidth, server operation and maintenance, quality surveillance, etc.) will be covered. When you subscribe, you'll get a user name and password for the cloud data download which you can enter in the authorization area of the options.

IMPORTANT

1) Downloading cloud data from the internet is only possible with the full version of EarthView. The demo is restricted to the random clouds mode.

2) We can not guarantee that the online data for the clouds will always be available and current! The cloud data is provided by third party institutions and we have no influence on their course of action. We will do everything possible to insure up-to-date cloud data, but there can be delays or server downtimes that can cause the cloud data not to be current or incorrect for some time.

3) The cloud information is not available at the same level of detail as the maps (this would produce extremely long download times and high costs). So the cloud display is only an approximation, nevertheless very realistic.
